Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has explained why Marc Cucurella was shown a red card after their 2-1 victory over Brentford at Stamford Bridge.
Cucurella, who opened the scoring for Chelsea, will now miss the team’s next match due to a one-match suspension. Although he had been booked only once during the match, a yellow card for a foul on Fabio Carvalho in stoppage time, he was sent off after the full-time whistle. The second booking came when Cucurella shoved Brentford’s Kevin Schade.
Maresca addressed the incident after the game, stating, “I didn’t see the second yellow card. The referee said it was for bad attitude. There are things we can do better.”
Despite the red card, Chelsea secured the three points, with Nicolas Jackson doubling their lead before Bryan Mbeumo pulled one back for Brentford.
