Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abbas Tajudeen, has called on the newly elected President of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), Comrade Alhassan Yahaya, to lead with professionalism, patriotism, and dedication.
Yahaya emerged as NUJ president during the National Triennial Delegates Conference held in Owerri, Imo State.
In a statement released by Musa Abdullahi Krishi, the Speaker’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Abbas emphasized the pivotal role of the NUJ in nation-building, particularly in shaping Nigeria’s global narrative.
“The NUJ, as the umbrella body of journalists, is a critical stakeholder in nation-building,” the Speaker noted, urging the union to spearhead the fight against fake news, misinformation, and disinformation.
Abbas congratulated Yahaya and other newly elected leaders of the NUJ, wishing them a successful tenure in advancing journalistic integrity and promoting national unity.
