The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Abia State has announced the formation of a Shadow House of Assembly aimed at promoting accountability in governance. The party’s Chairman, Abraham Amah, made the announcement during a stakeholders’ meeting in Umuahia, revealing that Solomon Akpulonu, the PDP member representing Obingwa East State constituency, would serve as the Speaker of the Shadow House.
Amah stated that the PDP would send a formal letter to the Abia State House of Assembly within 48 hours to notify them of the Shadow Assembly’s formation. The letter will urge the state’s official House of Assembly to comply with the establishment of the Shadow Assembly.
In addition to this move, the PDP has set up a reconciliation committee co-chaired by Amah and Peter Aguomba to address internal grievances and bring back members who left the party following the 2023 elections. Amah reiterated the PDP’s commitment to reclaiming Abia State in the 2027 elections.
Governor Alex Otti of Abia responded to the formation of the Shadow Assembly, claiming that opposition figures were conspiring against his administration in Abuja.
