The Federal Capital Territory High Court in Abuja has adjourned the arraignment of former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello until November 27, 2024. Justice Maryann Anenih made this ruling on Thursday, following a request by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for additional time to secure Bello’s appearance in court.
Bello, alongside Shuabu Oricha and Abdulsalami Hudu, faces a 16-count charge by the EFCC, including allegations of a criminal breach of trust and conspiracy amounting to N110.4 billion. The EFCC’s counsel, Jamiu Agoro, informed the court that a 30-day window for Bello’s summons, issued on October 3, remains valid.
The court initially issued a public summons for Bello, requiring his appearance and directing that notices be displayed at his last known address and in newspapers. The EFCC requested additional time to facilitate Bello’s attendance, and the defense attorneys for Bello’s co-defendants did not oppose the adjournment.
Justice Anenih granted the extension and approved a further notice posting at Bello’s residence, setting November 27 for the arraignment proceedings.
