The Kano State Government has allocated N150.9 billion for the payment of salaries and allowances for civil servants and political officeholders in the 2025 fiscal year. This allocation, announced days after Governor Abba Yusuf presented a proposed budget of N549.2 billion to the State Assembly, marks a significant commitment to personnel expenditure under the new minimum wage policy.
Musa Shanono, the Commissioner for the Ministry of Planning and Budget, stated that the total recurrent expenditure for 2025 is set at N236.5 billion, representing 43% of the total budget. Of this, N150.9 billion will cover monthly salaries and allowances.
The budget also includes N75.6 billion for operational costs of various Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs), and N9.96 billion for debt servicing.
Shanono highlighted that Kano’s expected recurrent revenue for 2025 is projected at N449.1 billion, an 18% increase from 2024, driven by higher allocations from the Federal Account Allocation Committee and internally generated revenue. Additionally, the capital expenditure of N312.6 billion, representing 57% of the budget, will support key development projects across the state.
