Nigerian media personality and actress, Toke Makinwa, held an emotional Thanksgiving service on Sunday, October 20th, to show her appreciation to God for His unwavering support through her most challenging times. As she prepares to turn 40 on November 3rd, Toke reflected on the personal battles she has faced, particularly her divorce, and how she felt like she would not survive it.
During the Thanksgiving service, Toke tearfully thanked God for not judging her as the world did. She recalled how, at one point, her divorce left her feeling devastated and as though she would die. Despite the heartbreak and the judgment from others, she expressed gratitude for God’s guidance and strength in keeping her together.
Toke’s marriage to fitness expert Maje Ayinde ended in 2016 after just two years, following public revelations of adultery. Reflecting on the breakdown of her marriage, Toke has previously opened up about the trauma she experienced, noting that despite being the victim, she was often blamed for the failure of her relationship. Her ex-husband fathered a child with another woman during their marriage, which added to her pain.
In her Thanksgiving speech, she also touched on the heartbreak caused by people in her life but emphasized that God had healed her and continued to hold her through every storm.
Earlier this year, Toke responded to trolls who criticized her for being unmarried, confidently declaring that her time would come, and those who mocked her would be there to witness her happiness. She also addressed misconceptions that she dislikes men or opposes marriage, reaffirming that she loves marriage and believes in its beauty, despite her own challenges.
