The nation experienced another blackout yesterday as the national electricity grid collapsed at approximately 6:16 PM.
Power generation plummeted from 3.87 gigawatts at 5 PM to 3.56 GW by 6 PM, ultimately dropping to 0.00 GW by 7 PM and remaining at that level through 8 PM.
The Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC) confirmed the grid failure in a statement to customers, with EEDC Head of Corporate Communications, Emeka Ezeh, noting that the collapse occurred at 6:48 PM on October 14, 2024. This led to a loss of power supply across the EEDC network, affecting customers in Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu, and Imo States.
Ezeh stated, “All our interface TCN stations are out of supply, and we are unable to provide services to our customers. We are on standby for further information on the collapse and restoration of supply from the National Control Centre (NCC) in Osogbo.”
The Abuja Disco also reported the outage, stating, “The power outage being experienced is due to a system failure from the national grid at 6:58 PM, impacting our franchise areas. We are collaborating with stakeholders to restore power as soon as the grid stabilizes. Thank you for your understanding.”
