The Director-General of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Mrs. Zubaida Umar, has called on staff to embrace modern technologies to enhance emergency management practices. This appeal was made during the launch of NEMA’s Customer Service Week, themed “Above and Beyond,” on Monday in Abuja.
Umar praised the agency’s staff for their resilience and commitment in challenging times. She stated, “In times of disaster, your ability to stay calm and focused on the needs of those affected is invaluable. The stories of lives saved and communities rebuilt reflect your dedication to service.”
Highlighting the impact of technology, she explained how tools like early warning systems and disaster mapping are transforming emergency management. “Let us embrace innovation to improve our processes and serve the public better,” she urged.
Teamwork was another key focus of Umar’s address. She emphasized the importance of collaboration among departments and partners in effectively addressing complex emergencies. “By supporting one another, we can achieve greater success in our mission,” she added.
Dr. Onimode Bandele, Director of Planning, Research, and Statistics, expressed the staff’s commitment to intensifying their efforts to meet the agency’s objectives. He highlighted that increased efforts would enhance the effectiveness and impact of NEMA’s initiatives.
Mr. Bello Danlami, the Information Officer of the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UNOCHA), commended NEMA for its high-quality services, acknowledging their significant impact on the safety and well-being of countless individuals in Nigeria.
Mrs. Nnenna Akajemeli, the National Coordinator of the Service Compact with All Nigerians, represented by SERVICOM Officer Ms. Rebecca Abah, also praised NEMA’s initiative. She underscored the importance of prioritizing customer needs and preparing communities for potential emergencies. “Going ‘Above and Beyond’ in meeting customer needs requires everyone’s commitment, from the front desk to top management,” she stated.
Umar concluded by reaffirming NEMA’s dedication to excellence and innovation, urging staff to work collaboratively to strengthen the agency’s response capabilities in times of need.
