Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo State has declared the state’s readiness to implement the new national minimum wage of N70,000 promptly. This decision follows extensive discussions with the State Chapter of the Nigeria Labor Congress (NLC).
During a media chat at the Government House, Uzodinma explained that the move aims to alleviate the adverse effects of inflation, which has contributed to the rising cost of living in Nigeria. He reiterated his administration’s commitment to enhancing the welfare of the state’s workforce amid ongoing economic challenges.
“The new policy reflects our dedication to ensuring that workers receive fair compensation for their contributions to the economic development of the state,” Uzodinma stated. He urged state civil servants to increase their productivity and dedication to providing high-quality services to the citizens of Imo.
“In line with our commitment to Imo workers, I held a productive meeting with the leadership of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) in the state to draft modalities for the swift implementation of the new national minimum wage,” he said. “The discussion progressed smoothly, and I am optimistic that with the pace we have set, the implementation of the new wage structure will commence in the near future.”
Comrade Chigemezu Nwigwe, the State Chapter Chairman of the NLC, confirmed the government’s commitment to workers’ welfare, expressing confidence that plans are in place to implement the new wage structure effectively.
