Asisat Oshoala continues to shine in the National Women’s Soccer League, scoring her fifth away goal for Bay FC in a 1-0 victory against Seattle Reign FC on Sunday. The Nigerian striker converted a penalty in the 27th minute, ensuring her team secured the crucial win at Lumen Field.
The penalty was awarded after Oshoala was tripped while advancing towards the goal, following a perfectly timed through ball from Tess Boade. This marks Oshoala’s second penalty goal of the season and her sixth overall, solidifying her position as the team’s leading scorer. She has netted three goals in her last four matches.
Bay FC’s victory pushes them into the eighth and final playoff position, tied on points with Portland Thorns FC, who occupy seventh place due to goal differential. The team now has 28 points, just one behind the Chicago Red Stars.
The win is Bay FC’s ninth of the season and their fifth on the road, demonstrating Oshoala’s impressive away performance as she has scored in both of the team’s last two away matches. They are now three points clear of Racing Louisville FC and six points ahead of San Diego Wave FC and Angel City FC.
With just four matches left in the NWSL regular season, Bay FC aims to secure their playoff spot as the competition intensifies.
