Pepsodent has initiated a comprehensive oral health campaign targeting 2.1 million primary school students across four Nigerian states. This effort aims to promote better oral hygiene practices among young children and will involve 3,818 schools in Lagos, Ogun, Oyo, and Kano.
Launched on September 17, 2024, the campaign kicked off in 20 primary schools in Lagos, covering districts such as Alimosho, Ajeromi-Ifelodun, and Ikeja. Schools in Oyo, Ogun, and Kano have also been activated, with specific councils included in the outreach.
Oiza Gyang, Marketing Head of Unilever Oral Care Nigeria, emphasized the importance of early intervention in developing lifelong oral hygiene habits. “By targeting primary school children, we aim to instill the practice of brushing twice daily with fluoride toothpaste like Pepsodent, which can lead to significant health benefits,” she stated.
Gyang highlighted that regular brushing helps prevent tooth decay and improves overall health, ultimately reducing absenteeism in schools and workplaces. She also noted the potential of children to influence their families’ habits, creating a positive ripple effect within communities.
The campaign aligns with Unilever’s broader mission of promoting sustainable living and ensuring access to essential oral health education. Brand Manager Mary Gbemisola Akindola reiterated the initiative’s role in raising awareness and its positive impact on students’ confidence and well-being.
Mrs. Bosede Oduntan, head teacher at Ejigbo Model Primary School, expressed enthusiasm for the initiative, recognizing its potential to empower pupils and foster good oral hygiene practices in the school community.
