The New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) has announced plans to probe six of its chieftains from the Southwest for alleged anti-party activities. This decision follows the recent dissolution of party executives in several states, including Taraba, Benue, Oyo, Bauchi, and Gombe, aimed at reorganizing and strengthening the party.
The six chieftains under investigation are Ayobami Idowu Adekunle, Rasheed Adebisi Olopoeniyan, Demola Oke, Kilamuwaiye Badmus, Oyesola Ololade, Olayiwola Musibau, Tunde Adedapo, and Riike Olanira. They have been suspended for an initial period of three months.
Ladipo Johnson, NNPP’s National Publicity Secretary, explained that the probe was a standard procedure within a “dynamic political party” seeking to address issues and uphold its principles. The party’s National Working Committee (NWC), which met in Abuja, decided to investigate these members for alleged offenses against the party.
Johnson emphasized that such actions are necessary to maintain party discipline and integrity. The affected members will be required to appear before the National Disciplinary Committee. The decision is based on Article 45.6.2 of the party constitution, which allows for suspension and disciplinary action against members under investigation.
