The Pistis Foundation, in partnership with the Asumah Brothers, has successfully empowered 70 street children from economically disadvantaged communities through a comprehensive sports and technology training initiative. Running from June to September 2024, the program aimed to provide valuable skills and a constructive holiday experience for the children.
The initiative targeted children from the Kids-off-the-Street (KOTS) Shelter, Destiny Trust Home, and Jakande community. It kicked off with a vibrant football tournament on June 15 at the Pistis Conference Centre (PCC) football field, which saw 73 children and 55 adults in attendance. The event featured a novelty match with 36 children participating, all of whom received medals.
Over the course of three months, 70 children attended weekly football training sessions led by a volunteer coach. The program culminated in a championship match and awards ceremony on August 16. The Destiny Trust Foundation Boys Football Club and Girls FC emerged as the top teams, with Jakande Boys FC and KOTS Boys FC taking second and third places, respectively. In the girls’ category, KOTS Girls FC finished second and Jakande Girls FC third. MVP awards were given to outstanding players, and winning teams were honored.
Simultaneously, 23 children from the KOTS shelter participated in summer technology training, which covered basic computing skills and Microsoft programs. This training ended with group projects.
This Sports and Innovation project is part of the Pistis Foundation’s WINGS Academy, aimed at skills acquisition and talent development. The initiative has successfully provided a structured and positive outlet for street children, offering them both athletic and technological skills, along with awards and gifts.
