2027: Sen. Nenadi Usman Extends Olive Branch to Abure-led NWC

-

Senator Nenadi Usman, the newly appointed Chair of the Labour Party National Caretaker Committee (LP-NTC), has issued a call for reconciliation to the Barrister Abure-led National Working Committee (NWC) amid the party’s ongoing leadership crisis. In a statement released on Thursday, Usman urged all factions within the party to unite for the common goal of strengthening the Labour Party ahead of the 2027 elections.

Call for Unity and Forgiveness

Sen. Usman emphasized that internal conflicts undermine a party’s survival and success. She expressed her desire to be remembered for transforming a divided Labour Party into a united, formidable force. Her appeal for unity underscores the need for collective effort to rebuild the party and prepare for future elections.

“The legacy I desire to be remembered for is that I met a Labour Party in relative conflict and disunity but left it a united, formidable, and indomitable election-winning party nationwide,” Usman said. She called for all members to embrace forgiveness and reinforce the party’s core values, including fairness, justice, and equal opportunity for all members, regardless of their social status, tribe, religion, or gender.

Invitation for Cooperation

Usman highlighted the significance of the September 4 meeting in Umuahia, where the party’s leadership crisis was addressed. She described the outcome as a collective victory, averting a potential deregistration by INEC due to a lack of legally acceptable leadership.

She stressed that no faction or group within the party should feel defeated or marginalized. Instead, she urged all members to join forces and channel their efforts into achieving progress and ultimately securing a presidential victory in 2027. Usman metaphorically encouraged members to transform their conflicts into opportunities for peace and growth.

Looking Ahead

With the 2027 elections approaching in just 30 months, Usman acknowledged the urgency of the situation. She emphasized the need for rapid progress and the successful organization of state congresses and a national convention to elect new party leadership.

Usman’s appeal is a bid to bring all members of the Labour Party together, promising that those who work towards the party’s advancement will receive her support, while those who resist progress will face challenges.

“My doors are open to everyone who means well for our party. Come forward and let us reason together on my committee’s supreme mandate to deliver exemplary state congresses and a transparent national convention,” Usman concluded.
