Protests against poor governance and rising hunger have entered their fifth day, with demonstrations taking place across the nation. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu addressed the public on Sunday morning, calling for a suspension of the strike while highlighting his administration’s achievements. Despite this appeal, protesters continued to rally in cities like Plateau and Lagos, as well as other regions.
Isah Zaki, a prominent figure in the Bauchi North zone’s #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria movement, expressed dissatisfaction with Tinubu’s speech. Zaki noted that any potential easing of protests in Bauchi North is hampered by disruptions caused by hoodlums, which have negatively impacted local businesses.
In Lagos, protesters have gathered at the Gani Fawehinmi Freedom Park in Ojota. Meanwhile, in Katsina, demonstrators were seen waving Russian flags and chanting in Hausa, “Hunger is killing us.” Police have begun trailing these protesters and using tear gas to disperse them.
In the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), security forces dispersed a group of protesters in the Karu area, arresting three individuals who were assembling. Yahaya Abdullahi, a participant, reported that security agents fired tear gas at the crowd. Protests continue in Lagos State’s Ojota area.
