Kenneth Okonkwo, a leading figure in the Labour Party, reaffirmed his commitment to the party during an appearance on Arise Television’s Prime Time programme on Tuesday.
Okonkwo addressed recent rumors about his political affiliation, stating clearly, “I am still a full-fledged member of the Labour Party,” and dismissing any misconceptions about his status within the party.
The confusion began after Okonkwo announced his decision to sever ties with the Labour Party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi. On Tuesday, he expressed his frustration over the misinterpretation of his previous statement. “I am embarrassed by your comment,” Okonkwo said. “I am just hearing it from your media station that I dumped the Labour Party. I made a statement to avoid any misinterpretation. So, where did you get that from? It’s not from the statement I made. I am still a full-fledged member of the Labour Party.”
When directly asked if he remains a member of the Labour Party, he confirmed, “Yes, absolutely.”
Okonkwo also clarified that there is no personal crisis between him and the Labour Party. Instead, he highlighted issues within the party’s National Working Committee (NWC), criticizing its failure to organize an all-inclusive convention as previously agreed upon and mandated by court judgments.
